Deliciously Zesty Baked Garlicky Prawns

This Deliciously Zesty Baked Garlicky Prawns recipe is delicious and super easy to make!

Prawns are often considered to be large-sized shrimp, although in reality the two come from different families. Still, prawns taste similar to shrimp and have a similar nutritional profile; one can stand in for the other in recipes. Including prawns in your regular diet means you get their numerous health benefits, but be careful of the high sodium and cholesterol content.

Prawns and shrimp are scientifically distinct. They come from different branches of the crustacean family tree and are anatomically different. Nevertheless, their nutrition profiles are very similar. Each is a good source of protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals.

So while they may be slightly different, both are nutritious additions to your diet and you’ll likely have no problem substituting one for the other in most recipes. Shrimp have an impressive nutrition profile. It is quite low in calories, providing only 84 calories in a 3-ounce (85-gram) serving, and does not contain any carbs. Approximately 90% of the calories in shrimp come from protein, and the rest come from fat. Additionally, the same serving size provides more than 20 different vitamins and minerals, including 50% of your daily needs for selenium, a mineral that may help reduce inflammation and promote heart health.

  • • 680g raw prawns, peeled and de-veined
  • • 7 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • • 4 tbsp white wine
  • • salt & pepper
  • • 5 tbsp melted butter
  • • 65g breadcrumbs
  • • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • • 2 tbsp flat-leaf parsley, chopped

Preheat oven to 220°C.

In a bowl, add the prawns, garlic, and white wine and toss to combine. Transfer the mixture to a 9 x 13-inch baking dish, and spread the prawns out in an even layer. Season with with salt and pepper.

Rinse out the mixing bowl, then add the melted butter and breadcrumbs, stir everything together until it’s evenly combined. With your fingers, sprinkle the mixture evenly in the baking dish over the shrimp.

Transfer dish to oven and bake for about 7 minutes, or until the prawns are just turning pink. Switch the oven over to the grill setting. Then grill the prawns for 2-3 more minutes, until they are totally pink and cooked through, and the breadcrumbs start to toast and look slightly golden.

Remove and drizzle the lemon juice evenly over the shrimp, sprinkle on the parsley. Serve immediately.
