Sometimes you want a chocolate dessert that isn’t too heavy, just a small smackerel of chocolate gooey heaven. Cue the fondant. The downfall of many a MasterChef contender, it’s developed a bit of a reputation. However, as long as you’re meticulous about timing, you can’t go wrong. The chocolate fondant is always impressive!
Scrumptious Chocolate Fondant
Chocolate gooey heaven!
Ingredients
- 125g plain chocolate (broken into pieces)
- 150g unsalted butter (125g for the recipe, 25g for greasing the basins)
- 4 eggs
- 75g caster sugar
- 50g self-raising flour (plus a little extra for dusting)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- icing sugar (for dusting)
- whipped cream (to serve)
Instructions
Melt the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl placed over a saucepan of gently simmering water – stir until combined then leave to cool
While the chocolate cools, preheat the oven to 180’C/Gas mark 4
Lightly butter and flour 6x 200ml pudding basins
Whisk the eggs and sugar together until light and pale and doubled in volume
Fold the egg mixture into the cooled chocolate – sift in the flour and cocoa then fold until combined
Spoon the chocolate mixture into the prepared pudding basins and bake for 6-7 minutes until risen
Loosen the puddings with a knife and carefully turn out
Dust with icing sugar and serve with whipped cream
