This The Ultimate Cheese On Toast recipe is absolutely delicious and super easy to make!
In fact, I’m surprised cheese toast hasn’t become more of a “thing,” given our universal obsession with cheese. It’s basically grilled cheese except infinite, because you aren’t held back by the structural integrity of trying to keep the pieces of bread on top of each other. In case you need a little inspiration to get the cheese juices flowing, here is an awesome recipe to jazz up the staple we all know and love.

The Ultimate Cheese On Toast
This The Ultimate Cheese On Toast recipe is absolutely delicious and super easy to make!
Ingredients
- 300 ml milk
- 100g Roquefort
- 60g butter
- 60g plain flour
- 100g mature Cheddar, grated
- ½ tsp English mustard powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 free range egg yolk
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp chives, chopped
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- 4 thick slices wholemeal bread
- Rocket salad, to serve
Instructions
Heat the milk in a pan over a low heat for about 5 minutes.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan and, when melted, stir in the flour. Cook for 1 minute then gradually whisk in the milk. Simmer, whisking, for 2-3 minutes, or until thickened. Add the cheese, mustard powder and Worcestershire sauce, stirring over a low heat until smooth. Remove from the heat and whisk in the egg yolk, lemon juice and chives and cayenne pepper.
Toast the bread, then divide the cheese mixture between the four slices.
Place in the grill and cook for 3-4 minutes, until golden. Serve with rocket salad.
