Take a refreshing sip of this traditional sangria drink with a cherry twist. Sangria is better if you make it the day before – letting the flavors meld. At the earliest, prep it a few hours before and let it marinate in the fridge.
One of my very favourite things to make for parties, or anytime is sangria! It’s like a blank slate that you can do so much with. Wine, more alcohol, and some of your favourite flavours and suddenly you have a whole new drink that can feed a crowd.
Unique in appearance, sweet in taste and the architect of many a hangover, sangria is one of the all-time greatest drinks. It has a unique charm, whether you’ve picked it up in a carton from a store or made your own, festooned with abundant bobbing orange slices. The relatively simple composition of wine, a soft mixer and fruit leaves it open to interpretation too, so if cherry sangria isn’t your thing, there’s sure to be a version to suit you.
Impress your guests with this super easy recipe for cherry sangria! Preheat oven to 200°C. Place cherries in an oven proof baking dish and sprinkle with sugar. Roast the cherries for 35-40 minutes. Allow to cool completely. Mix the red zinfandel and cherry liqueur in a large jug with the roasted cherries. Add sliced orange and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight. Serve over ice, top with a generous splash of sparkling rose wine and garnish with mint or basil leaves. Use our hashtag!
